Khameleon’s Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1 feels a bit uninspired for a character with three classic fighting styles

·

Today’s Kombat Kast gave us a sneak peek at how Quan Chi and Khameleon will play in Mortal Kombat 1 before they release. At the conclusion of this Kombat Kast, the developers showcased what these two can really do when paired up with one another during an actual match.

Liu Kang and Darrius put up a good fight (and even showed off a new move for Darrius in the process), but Quan Chi and Khameleon ultimately won out in the end. This presented an opportunity for Khameleon to show off her Fatality, so that’s what happened.

While donning Kitana’s colors, Khameleon jumps in with a single fan. Once in position, Khameleon then slices the opponent’s throat with said fan.

After changing her colors to be more like Mileena, Khameleon then proceeds to do a backflip straight up into the air while the opponent is reeling from having their throat sliced. At the peak of her jump, Khameleon then those two Sai blades at Liu Kang’s head.

Somehow, these Sai blades cause Liu Kang to be decapitated, leaving his body in a crumpled state. Finally, Khameleon and Quan Chi are then seen posing for their victory screen.

Even though Khameleon is intended to be an amalgamation of Kitana, Mileena, and Jade, this Fatality, oddly, doesn’t even incorporate anything related to Jade.

As Ed Boon himself once said, Kitana, Mileena, and Jade are all extremely popular within the Mortal Kombat fanbase, so a character that has elements from all three of them is pretty crazy.

“Everybody seems to love Kitana, Mileena, and Jade, and Khameleon is a combination of all three,” said Boon after the debut of the Quan Chi and Khameleon trailer at CCXP 2023. “So she keeps changing between them, and she has moves from all of them. She’s maybe the craziest Kameo character that we have in the game.”

Unfortunately, this Fatality feels like a real letdown. Check it out and see for yourselves:
