Former Super Eagles star and current Enyimba FC chairman, Kanu Nwankwo, has urged the club to push for glory in the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The Aba-based club, which currently sits in ninth place in the league standings, has struggled to find consistent form since the departure of former coach Finidi George, who previously guided them to a league title.
Speaking through team manager Prince Nwabeke, Kanu set ambitious goals for the team. He emphasized the need to secure either the NPFL title or a top-three finish to qualify for continental competitions.
“The chairman, Nwankwo Kanu, has made it clear: ‘It’s either you win the league title or secure a continental ticket—nothing less,’” Nwabeke stated. “We’re focused on achieving this target. We have three matches left, and our aim is to secure all nine points.”
Adding to the club’s firepower, former West Bromwich Albion striker Brown Ideye has returned to the NPFL after 18 years. The 35-year-old recently signed a short-term deal with Enyimba, bringing his experience and attacking prowess to the team.

Enyimba’s recent 4-1 triumph over Mozambique’s Black Bulls in the CAF Confederation Cup has boosted morale, and the team will look to carry this momentum into the league. Their last NPFL title came in 2018 with a 2-1 victory over Ikorodu FC.
With Kanu’s clear directives and Ideye’s return, Enyimba is determined to restore their dominance and cement their place among Nigeria’s football elite.
