The Deputy Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Ben Kalu has launched a N500m grant for 8,400 businesses and families selected from the 400 political Wards in Bende Federal constituency.
The grants according to the Deputy Speaker was to support businesses and families in Bende as well as foster economic growth, eradicate poverty, hunger and unemployment in the area.
Kalu who stated this at his country home in Bende on Monday during a town hall meeting with indigenes of Bende Federal Constituency, said payments of the funds would commence from December 30, 2024.
Reading out his one year scorecard as a Federal legislator, Kalu said that many roads and other projects captured in the 2024 National budget through his legislative representations have been completed while others are undergoing construction.
He said he has sponsored 105 bills in the 10th National Assembly and appealed to his constituents and the people of South East to give more support to the President Tinubu-led administration.
“When it comes to making laws, I have broken the jigs. As of today, in one year, I have 105 bills. Nobody has done that in one year in the history of Nigerian Parliament,” he said.
The Deputy Speaker who thanked President Tinubu for his love for the the South East, said the President has demonstrated enough determination in tackling infrastructural decay in the region as well as addressing other concerns in the country.
“There are people who go to Abuja and spend four years without sponsoring a single bill. However, if the president did not support this effort, it wouldn’t have been possible.
“The Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is going to be renewed, and the person in charge of this is your brother, Benjamin Kalu,” he declared.
Emma Eke, the Director General of the Ben Kalu Foundation, commended the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, for his remarkable contributions and dedication to the well-being of his constituents. He praised him for his selflessness, describing him as a leader who “prefers to give back to the people than what people may consider personal”.
