Capcom Cup 11 is now behind us. Though many players had their doubts about JP after a series of nerfs, IBSG|Kakeru was able to demonstrate that he was still a very viable character by winning the $1,000,000 grand prize.
Funnily enough, Kakeru actually considered pulling Mai Shiranui out, but ended up getting into a fight with his wife about it. In the end, it was decided that he would stick with JP, which is a decision that seemingly paid off due to his big victory.
During the interview in which Kakeru revealed this, he was asked by Walker Plus about how his wife has helped him with his competitive career. Translations have been handled by our very own Nicholas “MajinTenshinhan” Taylor.
“On social media, the ‘marriage buff’ has become a big subject. How did you feel the change in motivation from having a family with you?” asked Walker Plus.
“My motivation itself hasn’t changed that much,” responded Kakeru. “My wife helps me with managing my physical condition and food intake and she’s a big healing factor on the mental side for me, so she really helps me a lot in those areas. Compared to before we got married, I can truly focus only on the competition itself and lend my focus entirely to the Street Fighter 6 competitive environment which has been big for me.”
At one point, Kakeru mentioned that he’d be using the $1,000,000 grand prize he won at Capcom Cup 11 to buy his wife a ring. However, he mentioned that money like that tends to disappear rather quickly for him.
Aside from a ring for his wife, Kakeru doesn’t have many plans on what to do with the $1,000,000. Of course, he’s made it clear that he still intends to participate in the competitive scene.
“You mentioned you’ll be getting her a ring with the 1 million dollar prize. Any other plans?” asked Walker Plus.
“No, not really,” said Kakeru. “It was the same when I won Gamers8 ($400,000 in 2023). Money really just disappears quickly, ha ha… I want to continue winning for a long time in this field so preparing funds for my next competition and maintaining a food regimen that works for a pro player both cost money, so I want to focus mainly on that as much as I can.”
