Kaduna Senator Condemns Killing Of Travellers In Edo, Demands Justice

The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Lawal Usman has strongly condemned the unwarranted killing of some travellers from the Northern part of the country in Uromi, Edo State.

Feeling distraught by the gruesome incident, the lawmaker called on the Federal Government, the Edo State Government and security agencies “to conduct a swift, thorough and transparent investigation into this heinous crime and ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice without delay.”

Usman, in a statement on Saturday in Kaduna, vehemently condemned the wanton murder of the travellers, describing the killing of the innocent Northerners in Edo State as barbaric and senseless.

He noted that the horrific act was not only an affront to humanity “but also a deliberate assault on the unity and peace of our great nation, Nigeria.”

Expressing deep sorrow and regret at the heinous crime, Usman added, “The victims, hardworking Nigerians who were merely pursuing their livelihoods, were brutally cut down in the prime of their lives—an unspeakable atrocity that demands immediate and decisive action.

“No Nigerian, irrespective of ethnicity, religion, or region, should ever be subjected to such mindless violence.”

He therefore urged the Federal Government, the Edo State Government and security agencies to fish out all those behind the killing of the travellers and punish them appropriately.

In view of the gruesome incident, Usman also appealed to government at all levels as well as community leaders to prioritize dialogue, reconciliation and peace building initiatives to de-escalate ethnic tensions and foster national cohesion.

He also called on Northern leaders and patriot Nigerians to remain calm “but unwavering in the pursuit of justice, saying, “We must resist any attempt to exploit this tragedy to sow division or incite reprisal attacks.”

“Nigeria’s strength lies in our diversity, and we must reaffirm our commitment to tolerance, mutual respect, and the sanctity of human life,” he added.

Senator Usman commiserate with the families of the murdered travellers, describing the loss of their loved ones as “a collective tragedy” and praying that Almighty God grants you the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

The lawmaker’s statement concluded, “To the bereaved families, my heart goes out to you. Your loss is a collective tragedy, and we stand in solidarity with you during this painful time. May the Almighty grant you the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.

“Let us unite as one people to reject violence and work tirelessly toward a Nigeria where justice, peace, and security prevail for all.”
