Street Fighter 6 has been in the hands of the public for about seven months now. Capcom has not made any major balance changes to the game just yet, but fans are suspecting that the first big balance update is coming soon with the Capcom Cup finals taking place next month.
In anticipation of said potential update, many of us in the fighting game community are actively discussing what we want to see changed in Street Fighter 6 Season 2. Kizzie Kay recently sat down with fighting game legend Justin Wong to talk about what both competitors want to see implemented into Street Fighter 6, and there are definitely some interesting ideas here.
A major talking point in the community right now is the parry mechanic in Street Fighter 6 — specifically Perfect Parry. Some folks, including top players, believe that Perfect Parry has little to no risk, which makes it too abuse-able in standard play.
Both Justin Wong and Kizzie Kay appear to feel the same way, and JWong takes it a step further in thinking that the parry mechanic needs “fixing.” One of his proposed changes, naturally, targets the parry mechanic.
“The problem with parry is that people just mash parry now, and it gets kind of played out, boring, not exciting,” Justin begins. “So, what I think they should do with the parry system is try to make it capture that [Street Fighter 3: Third Strike] feel where it’s a risk. Parry should be a risk.”
Justin believes that going for Perfect Parry right now is too low risk for too high a reward, so he proposes that Capcom essentially adds directional parries like Third Strike has. Justin would like to see a mid/high parry and a separate low parry to further mix things up and make it so that players can’t just toss out a Perfect Parry attempt on wake up every time and find as much success as they currently do now.
There’s quite a bit more here to the proposed Street Fighter 6 changes from Kizzie Kay and Justin Wong, so be sure to check out the full video below.
