Justice will be served – Ogun State Govt speaks on death sentence for k!llers of couple and their son

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring justice is served for the brutal m8rder of Kehinde Fatinoye, his wife, Bukola, and their son, Oreoluwa.

The family members were gruesomely m8rdered on New Year’s Day in 2023.

An Ogun State High Court on Monday, February 3, 2025, convicted and sentenced their k!llers to d3ath by hanging

The family’s driver, Lekan Adekanbi admitted to masterminding the attack, citing his employers’ refusal to increase his salary or grant him a loan.

The Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Communication and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, gave the assurance in an interview with Punch amid growing concerns over the government’s hesitancy in signing execution orders.

Akinmade emphasised that those condemned to death must face the consequences of their crimes, adding that failure to carry out capital punishment could embolden criminals who believe they might evade the full weight of the law.

“On that case, justice must be served. You will recall that the state government, through the Ministry of Justice, recently visited the prison to ensure that the area where those sentenced to death are held is in order. The state government will not hesitate to ensure that those who have been condemned to death really get what they deserve,” he said.

Akinmade assured the public that the government was aware of concerns regarding the enforcement of capital punishment and reaffirmed that justice would not be compromised.

“Let us wait and see. The state government has made its pronouncement, and the court has also delivered justice. We should rest assured that justice will be served. They must be made to face the music.

“If those sentenced to life imprisonment or death are not made to face justice, it will create room for others with similar criminal tendencies to thrive, thinking that after committing a capital offence, they might only end up in jail. The people’s interest should be the government’s priority at this critical time.”

When asked about possible alternatives if governor Abiodun does not sign the death warrant, the aide emphasised that “the governor works with the law.”
