Juri's level 1 Super Art isn't the only one that can be used to punish Luke's Sand Blaster projectile

UMA327 surprised everyone with his Juri at Capcom Cup X earlier this year. He ended up taking first place over Yesports|Chris Wong at the major event, winning himself $1,000,000 before taxes.

It was clear that UMA327 had been putting in time in the lab specifically for the Luke match up. During the tournament, UMA327 would very often respond to Chris Wong performing Luke’s Sand Blaster projectile with Juri’s level 1 Super Art.

Most level 1 Super Arts actually don’t have any invincibility against projectiles. However, Luke’s Sand Blaster projectile travels unbelievably fast while Juri’s level 1 Super Art can low profile against certain attacks due to its crouching animation.

However, it turns out that Juri’s Sakkai Fuhazan isn’t the only level 1 Super Art in the game that can specifically counter Luke’s fireball. Kasai recently uploaded a video that showcases other characters disrespecting Luke’s projectile.

The tech — referred to as “Glass Phasing” — is shown to work most effectively for Jamie, A.K.I., Ryu, Ken, Blanka, E. Honda, and Guile. Of course, it’s important to keep in mind that this requires frame perfect timing to pull off.

It’s also possible for Chun-Li, Rashid, and JP to dodge the last active frame of Luke’s Sand Blaster with their level 1 Super Arts, but this is extremely specific and generally won’t be very effective against the heavy or Overdrive versions of Sand Blaster.

Technically speaking, Zangief’s level 1 Super Art is actually the best at evading the Sand Blaster projectile. It doesn’t even require frame perfect timing. However, this will simply result in Luke getting a free punish, so there’s no practice reason to ever do this.
