Responsibilities
The Junior Advisor – Conflict Prevention and Elections will work under the supervision of the Head of Component, Conflict Prevention and Elections.

  •  Develop concept notes, meeting agendas, minutes and reports for internal and external activities.
  • Provide technical advice and support to the partners and other stakeholders on key thematic issues, as relevant. 
  • Support planning, organization and conduct of meetings and activities of the Conflict Prevention and Election Components in support of the ECOWAS Commission.
  • Participate in Project internal meetings and activities and provide support as may be requested and/or delegated.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for purposes both within and external to the Project
  •  Support knowledge management processes within the Project 
  • Support the coordination and networking with other GIZ sister programmes, the counterparts in the ECOWAS system as well as with other relevant stakeholders
  • Support the mapping process of donors and other stakeholders, as well as monitor and report on political trends and developments in West Africa.
  • Travel in the region and beyond, as may be required. Programmatic implementation and planning
  • Support the day-to-day operational activities and functions of the GIZ EPSG Conflict Prevention and Elections Components
  • Provide support for development of/adjustments to operational plans and budgets and ensure implementation and maintain communication with Project partners as relevant.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for activity implementation by the Technical Advisors in Conflict Prevention and Elections Components
  • Support the preparation of contracts for expert consultants, service providers and others, in close coordination with the Technical Advisors.
  • Maintain good liaison and provide support with Project consultants and support quality management of services and tasks.
  • Support preparation of fact sheets, presentations, articles (internal and external) for publication.
  • Ensure compliance with administrative and financial rules and regulations. • Perform other project-elated duties and functions as may be directed. Other duties/additional tasks
  • Performs other relevant duties and tasks as may be required and at the request of management

Required qualifications, competences, and experience
Qualifications:

  • A University degree in Political Science, Peace and Security Studies, International Relations, Law or a relevant field of study. Professional experience
  • Not more than three years’ working experience in the areas of peacebuilding, democracy and governance, conflict prevention or other related field.
  • Experience working with ECOWAS in any capacity will be an added advantage.
  • Other knowledge, additional competences 
  • Experience in security policy concepts, democracy and governance, human rights, law or related sector with an ability for practical application of knowledge.
  •  Exceptional writing, reporting, and presentation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, multidisciplinary, and highly political context.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent diplomacy and persuasion skills, with a high sense of integrity and transparency. 
  • Resourceful and resilience and able to stay motivated in the face of setbacks or during periods of pressure.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision whilst at the same time maintaining a strong sense of team and collaboration.
  • Good analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English is required for this position. Working knowledge of French will be a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with the ECOWAS region and established contacts with relevant actors is considered an asset.
  • Experience working for an international organisation will be considered an asset.

Salary
According to GIZ salary scale for Band 3
