Just 9 in-game seconds…
It’s that time of year again, folks. Halloween is upon us and people will undoubtedly be spending the spookiest day of the year celebrating with some good, old fashioned scary movies, sweet treats, and maybe even a party or two.
If you’re looking for your next jump scare tonight, we’ve got it, and this one will be particularly frightening for any friends you might have who are not the biggest fans of grapplers in fighting games. A clip featuring what has to be the fastest Zangief round we’ve ever seen play out in Street Fighter 6 has hit the internet, and it’s a must see.
The footage comes from Sekwele on Twitter who happens to be the Zangief in this clip. This match took place during a recent installment of the Welcome To The Dungeon tournament series and features just an absolutely remarkable 9 in-game seconds of Street Fighter play.
It’s the final round of the fourth game in Sekwele’s set against a Cammy player named Chibi_K, and just a mere real life second after “FIGHT” rings out, we see the Zangief player take a step forward then whiff a crouching jab.
Immediately following this, the Zangief makes a hard read in thinking that Cammy would attempt a light Spiral Arrow in the neutral for a quick, safe pressure option — and she does. As if it was practiced and the two were performing a choreographed dance, the Zangief neutral jumps at the exact same time the Spiral Arrow comes out, and he comes down with a fully charged drop kick to hit Cammy as a punish counter.
Zangief’s fully charged jumping heavy kick causes a wall bounce when it hits as a punish counter, and this allows Sekwele to combo afterward with an Overdrive air SPD dealing a big chunk of damage.
As Cammy is getting back up, Zangief Drive Rushes in with a meaty knee and finds the counter hit, which lets him link into lights and convert into a full blown combo. Gief cancels into Drive Rush, continues the sequence into Overdrive Lariat, then spends every ounce of his resources by transitioning right into level 3 super to close out the combo and the game.
When all is said and done, this round literally only lasted nine in-game seconds. This two-touch sequence started with a hard read and everything went exactly as planned for the Zangief player.
Be sure to check out the clip below, and be extra sure to show it to any of your pals who aren’t fond of grapplers in fighting games to give them a real good scare this Halloween.
