Premier League giants Manchester United are said to be closely monitoring Brentford’s Ivan Toney, joining a host of other top-tier clubs in the race for his signature.
Erik ten Hag, the United boss, is reportedly keen on enhancing his attacking force and is eyeing Toney to alleviate the goalscoring pressures currently shouldered by Rasmus Hojlund.
Transfer journalist Dean Jones recently shed light on the ongoing developments in Toney’s transfer saga.
He revealed that apart from Manchester United, the Brentford striker has caught the attention of several other prominent clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, and Chelsea.
Jones pointed out the possibility of Toney signing a new contract with Brentford, which has been a topic of discussion. However, as of now, the striker has not made any moves to extend his tenure with the Bees.
Brentford has reportedly valued Toney at a staggering £100m, as per The Independent.
Discussing Toney’s future, Jones, in an interview with GIVEMESPORT, stated, “The first thing to look for with Toney is whether or not he does actually sign a new contract. There’s been a lot of talk around it. But so far, there’s nothing in place for him to actually do that.”
He further elaborated on the speculations about a new contract for Toney, which might include a release clause. This clause would be pivotal for his transfer in the summer. With no such contract currently in place, Toney’s move in the upcoming transfer window seems more likely.
Adding to the intrigue, Jones commented, “I think there are a lot of clubs that genuinely are looking at Toney, I think that Arsenal and Chelsea are the two main ones. In the background, Tottenham and even Manchester United are having a look just in case the situation could change in a way that suits them.”
Toney is set for his much-anticipated return to the field in Brentford’s upcoming game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The 27-year-old forward had been sidelined from the game for eight months (259 days) due to a suspension related to betting.
