Ruben Amorim is on the brink of being appointed at Manchester United’s next manager, with many comparisons being made to Jose Mourinho.
The Red Devils are locked in talks with Sporting Lisbon to release the Portuguese manager to move to Old Trafford.
United have triggered his £8.3 million release clause and are now just discussing a full compensation fee for Amorim to move immediately.
Amorim is set to succeed Erik ten Hag who was sacked on Monday morning after a poor run of form has led to United sitting in 14th in the Premier League and are experiencing their worst record in Europe for 41 years.
The 39-year-old is set to be United’s youngest ever manager, with praise for the Portuguese manager already pouring in.
Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly referred to the manager as “poet” when they played together for the Portugal national team thanks to how eloquent he is.
However, now Amorim has got the approval from another elite Portuguese manager.
Jose Mourinho approves Ruben Amorim to Manchester United
Speaking after Sporting’s game against Nacional, Amorim was quick to shut down the many comparisons being made to Jose Mourinho.
However, Amorim did confirm that the former United manager had contact him amid the news of his new position.
Speaking to the press, Amorim said: “He’s already texted me, [saying]: ‘The old and the new [Mourinho] are still in, I’ll see you in the next stage!’… [Am I] the new Mourinho? There will never be a new Mourinho.”
Comparing the young manager to himself is a very Mourinho move from The Special One, however this sign off speaks volumes of his potential at Old Trafford.
