“So, you’re into knife-throwing, huh?” That’s how it started, with me, a 57-year-old, asking you. You replied, “Yeah, me and Angelina, we got into it in a hotel room. I was filming a Western, and we’d spend our evenings just tossing knives.”
Vaughan chimed in, recalling your words. “You said, ‘We’d stuff a duvet into a cardboard box, set it up at the end of the room, and just hurl knives at it.’” That was your idea of fun.
Your pals, though, didn’t quite get it. They’d nod along, saying, “Cool, cool,” but inside they were thinking, “That’s a night in?”
Vaughan added a bit more to the story. “You were so reckless, you’d say, ‘We loved knocking back tequila and throwing knives!’”
Fast forward to the present day, and you and Angelina, once a high-flying couple, are no longer together. But you’ve stayed friends, even after your love story ended in the late ’90s.
Jolie, the star of Maleficent, has fond memories of her time on the set of Hackers. She met her first husband there back in ’95. “That’s where I met Jonny, who is still a great friend,” Jolie told Buzzfeed in 2014. “So I think of him when I think of that. Although, I’m sure the movie looks so ancient now, but we had a lot of fun making that.”
