John D. Blue Jr., or Johnny as he was known among his many friends, passed away Friday, Jan. 19, surrounded by loving family. The son of the late John Daniel Blue and Mary Angelina Duffey Blue, Johnny was a retired Navy senior chief. He was full of positive energy and wonderful, outlandish ideas, and he was well known for seeing the potential in everyone and everything. Johnny made it his life’s mission to help others and was known as a kind, loving, and loyal friend, the living epitome of his motto: Kindness is the currency of humanity; spend it generously.

Johnny was fiercely proud of his family, and it brought him great joy to be a husband to Ellie, and a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, as well as Uncle Johnny to his nieces and nephews and their children.
He is survived by his four children, John Daniel Blue III of Dallas, Texas, Robyn Elizabeth (Corey) Ramsey of San Diego, California, Benjamin Christopher (Stephanie Jean) Blue of Greene, Rhode Island, and Duffy Folmar of Andalusia; grandchildren, JD Blue IV, Abigail Gray Degner, Jason C. Gray, Dallas C. Blue, Remington B. Blue, Stryker J. Blue, Jacob S. Folmar, and Damian L. Williams; great-grandchildren, Dominic Trujillo, Sterling Degner, Colton Degner; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Elena Anne Cavallon Blue, brothers, Charles C. Cope, James Duffey Cope, and sister, Wanda M. Studstill.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday morning, Jan. 25, 2024, at Foreman Funeral Home in Andalusia, immediately followed by funeral services at 10:30 a.m. with Brother Jason Gunter officiating. Johnny will be interred in the Blue family plot, near his grandfather, at 2 p.m. that afternoon in Perote Cemetery in Perote, Alabama, just south of Union Springs in Bullock County.
Johnny’s children will be hosting a celebration of his life from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday at his home at 16604 Moore Road in Andalusia. Everyone is welcome to celebrate with them.
His loving, generous, and adventurous spirit will be missed by all.
