Jay-Z has a bone to pick with the Grammys. His wife, Beyoncé’s track record, is one of his 99 problems.
He voiced his frustrations at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Feb. 4. There, he accepted the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award. His issue? The Recording Academy’s failure to properly acknowledge his wife’s career.
Curious about the winners? You can see them all here.
Jay-Z, at 54, had a message for the Academy. “We want y’all to get it right—at least get it close to right,” he said. He was referring to the show’s history of snubs.
He added, “Obviously it’s subjective, because it’s music and it’s opinion-based.” But then he dropped a bombshell. “But some things, you know, I don’t want to embarrass this young lady—but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year.”
Beyoncé’s Grammy record is impressive, to say the least. Last year, she broke the record for the most Grammy wins of all time. She’s got 32 trophies in her cabinet.
But here’s the catch. Despite her wins, the Renaissance artist has never bagged the Album of the Year award. She’s been nominated for the prize multiple times. In 2010 for I Am… Sasha Fierce, 2011 for Lady Gaga’s The Fame Monster as a featured artist, 2015 for Beyoncé, 2017 for Lemonade, and 2023 for Renaissance.
And here’s another fun fact. Bey and Jay are tied for the record of most Grammy nominations. They’ve each been nominated a whopping 88 times.
