Japanese quiz RPG teases fake Capcom fighting game but gets real Street Fighter 6 crossover

The start of April means you really can’t believe anything you read online, but sometimes a real thing can come out of all the joking.

Colopl was one such case this year when they teased a fake Capcom fighting game for their based on their The Magic User and the Black Cat Wiz / Quiz RPG: World of Mystic Wiz title for April Fool’s Day before revealing they do have a true Street Fighter 6 collaboration incoming.

The fake game was titled Spirit Fighter based on the original release of Street Fighter 2, and it seems like they put in a decent amount of work to make the joke look pretty real at first glance.

There were eight wizard fighters shown off between Damuza, Leala, Refill, Annerley, Dantalion, Douga, H.XI, and Radius, who we presume are all characters from Black Cat Wiz, and had some pixel art created to go along with them.

Colopl even went so far as to make a handful of fake screenshots too including the title screen, SF2 intro copy, character select screen, versus screen, one in battle and the game over screen that you can check out in the gallery.

Scrolling down to the bottom of the special website for Spirit Fighter, however, just straight up says it was all a joke of course.

It was not all for nothing though since Colopl came back and announced a real partnership with Capcom to put Street Fighter 6 in World of Mystic Wiz.

Since it’s quiz game as well as an RPG, that means they’ll be adding Street Fighter-related questions to the mobile title it seems considering the promotional art released for the collab includes a question about Luke’s Super Arts.

How this crossover will work beyond that we don’t really know yet, and the special event won’t begin in game until the end of April according to their press release.

Unfortunately, the collab is going to pretty much be limited to those in Japan because while there was an official English release of World of Mystic Wiz, it was shut down all the way back in 2017.

Since Mihoyo also teased an April Fool’s crossover between SF6 and Honkai: star Rail too, perhaps we’ll see that become something of a reality at some point in the future as well.
