Manchester United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup quarter-finals after a chaotic 4-3 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
Ruben Amorim’s side fought hard in North London but were undone by defensive errors and moments of brilliance from Spurs.
United started the game brightly, creating early chances, but struggled to contains Spurs’ relentless pressing.
A costly mistake from Altay Bayindir handed Dominic Solanke the opening goal, as the striker capitalised on a spilling save.
The hosts doubled their lead early in the second half through Dejan Kulusevski.
Solanke struck again, moments after, to make it three.
United responded with resilience, netting three through Joshua Zirkzee, Amad Diallo and Jonny Evans.
The defeat leaves Amorim’s men reflecting on missed opportunities and defensive frailties.
Defensive sloppiness that has drawn interest from Jamie Carragher, who questioned the ability of a certain centre-back.

Speaking on Sky Sports after the game, Jamie Carragher shared concerns about Lisandro Martinez’s recent form for United.
Martinez was at fault for Spurs’ second and third goals, struggling to deal with Tottenham’s dynamism.
“I think a worry for United is Lisandro Martinez,” Carragher said.
“I didn’t think he’d play well in a back four because he’s small, but he had a really good season.
“In some ways you’d think he’d be suited to a back three.
“But I don’t think he’s looked as comfortable since Amorim came in.
“He had a really poor night,” Carragher added.
Martinez has delivered some strong performances this season, notably against Manchester City.
However, his inconsistency has raised questions, as he struggles to adapt to Amorim’s system.
While players like Harry Maguire and Amad Diallo have thrived, Martinez’s performances remain under the spotlight.
The ball-playing centre-back has however, been linked with a move to Real Madrid.
Perhaps interest from elsewhere has played on Martinez’s mind.
United fans will hope the Argentine can rediscover his form.
Sooner rather than later.
