Jamie Carragher believes Ruben Amorim could suffer the same fate as Graham Potter after his tough start at Manchester United.
Amorim’s reign at Old Trafford has begun poorly, with five losses in his first eight league matches.
This marks the club’s worst managerial start in over a century.
United have failed to score in their last three games, losing to Bournemouth, Wolves, and Newcastle.
Those defeats leave them 14th in the Premier League table.
The Portuguese coach replaced Erik ten Hag in November but now faces a huge test against league leaders Liverpool at Anfield.
Writing in The Telegraph, Carragher recalled Amorim’s initial reluctance to take the job mid-season.
He preferred to oversee a summer rebuild instead.

Carragher compared Amorim’s situation to Potter’s troubled spell at Chelsea.
Potter endured a “horrendous” run of five defeats in six games after replacing Thomas Tuchel in 2022.
Chelsea sacked Potter after seven months, with the club sitting 11th in the table.
The Englishman won just 12 of his 31 matches.
Carragher noted United hoped Amorim’s arrival would mirror Jurgen Klopp’s impact at Liverpool.
Instead, the results have resembled Potter’s Chelsea struggles.
“A big worry as United head to Anfield is that Amorim’s arrival was supposed to echo Jurgen Klopp’s at Liverpool,” Carragher wrote.
“Currently, Amorim’s reign has more in common with Graham Potter’s brief spell at Chelsea.”
However, Carragher highlighted one key difference between the two managers.
He believes Amorim carries the “aura of a top coach.”
Carragher admitted he never thought Potter suited Chelsea’s culture.
“I was never convinced the Englishman was suited to Stamford Bridge,” he said.
He explained Chelsea’s fans expect managers with big personalities, like Jose Mourinho or Antonio Conte.
Potter, in his view, lacked that commanding presence.
“Amorim, on the other hand, carries the aura of a top coach.
“Unlike Erik ten Hag, he looks and sounds the part,” Carragher added.
“Listening to him gives you confidence he knows exactly what he wants.”
Amorim’s 3-4-3 system has struggled to take hold at United.
The manager admitted feeling “embarrassed” by the team’s recent form.
After the 2-0 loss to Newcastle, he warned United could face a relegation battle.
“It is also my fault.
“I think the team is not improving,” Amorim said.
“It is a little bit lost in this moment.”
He added, “It is a bit embarrassing to be Manchester United coach and lose a lot of games.
“But we have to cope with difficult moments.”
Amorim stressed his belief in his system but admitted limited time on the training pitch has caused setbacks.
“You cannot go back. You have to continue to push,” he said.
The United boss insisted he remains open to adjustments within his 3-4-3. “I change something tactical in every game,” Amorim explained.
“I’m not stubborn. I just believe in something and stick to that.”
