Manchester United signings are like English buses. You wait ages for one and then two come along at the same time.
Yesterday, it was revealed that Silva Mexes had joined Manchester United and would be going into the under-14 squad. And today there is news that another young prospect has signed on at Old Trafford.
Journalist Alan Nixon has revealed that James Overy has joined Manchester United.
The highly rated 17-year-old right back is joining on a three year contract.
According to Nixon, United beat the likes of Everton and West Ham United to his signature. The club must now agreed a compensation amount with Perth Glory, with whom the youngster is currently registered according to FIFA rules.
Overy has been in England and playing for Devon based Newton Abbot Spurs since hs family moved from Australia to come to the UK. The defender decided to join the Red Devils despite having trials at both Everton and West Ham.
This is another example of United’s drive towards bolstering their academy with some of the best talent in the country. With United famously struggling to find a long term right-back since the likes of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young left the club, it seems that the hierarchy are looking to youth to ensure that there’s a prospective right-back around the club for the future.
Good luck to James on his journey in Manchester.
