Manchester United’s summer transfer window was filled with excitement and expectation.
The club made five high-profile signings to strengthen the sqaud.
Noussair Mazraoui, Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Manuel Ugarte all arrived at Old Trafford.
These signings cost the club around £200 million.
To balance the books, United needed to sell players.
Several departures took place over the summer window.
Some players were seen as surplus to requirements, while others left to seek regular minutes elsewhere.
United’s approach to transfers has always involved difficult decisions.
While new additions often grab headlines, the players who leave can significantly impact the squad.
Balancing squad depth and finances is essential for long-term success.
However not all exits sit well with former players.
Jaap Stam, a former United defender, has questioned one sale in particular.
Stam believes the club made a “bad call” with a recent departure.

Scott McTominay was one of the notable players to leave.
The academy graduate joined Napoli for around £25 million.
McTominay often divided fan opinion but played a key role under Erik ten Hag during the 2023/24 season.
Since moving to Serie A, McTominay has excelled.
Napoli are just two points behind Atalanta at the top of the table.
Stam expressed his disappointment over the sale.
“Scott McTominay has been a very important influence at United even though he wasn’t a guaranteed starter,” he told Sports Lens.
“He scored goals and had a big impact and those are the players you don’t want to lose.
“Leaving might’ve been a good step for him, as is being discussed with Marcus Rashford.
“But he may well have wanted to stay,” Stam added.
United’s decision to part ways with McTominay remains divisive.
Stam’s comments reflect the ongoing debate about balancing new arrivals with the importance of experienced players.
