Manchester United fans could soon see the return of a legend to Old Trafford in the form of 51-year old defender Jaap Stam.
The Italian Media, TuttoMercatoWeb have released an exclusive story highlighting that United have opened conversations with the Dutchman to join the club in a position which could act as a bridge between the club and the technical staff, which is to be assumed a role that the players can turn to and raise any issues they’re facing.
The report highlights that Stam’s return to his old team is currently under evaluation, suggesting these talks have only just begun.
However, having been a coach and first team manager for clubs such as PEC Zwolle, Feyenoord, Cincinnati and Reading, this would mean taking a step back in his managerial career.
Although it’s unsure at this time as to if he would be working along a new manager or alongside his countryman Erik ten Hag, there’s no doubt fans would love to have Stam back at the club, his home from 1998 to 2001 where he was a key part of many title victories, including the historic treble.
