IWD 2025: Oden Ewa Joins Global Celebration, Hails Women’s Excellence

As the world celebrates International Women’s Day (IWD) today, March 8, Honorable Oden Ewa, the Cross River State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, and Chairman of the Oden Ewa Foundation, extends his commendations to women in Yakurr Local Government Area, Cross River State and around the world.

Speaking to a select group of people on this year’s IWD theme “For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality and Empowerment,” he said women are the backbone of every society, fueling development and inspiring nations with their dedication, resilience and compassion and this aligns with the United Nations’ emphasis on accelerating action for gender equality.

Honorable Oden Ewa, an advocate for gender equity and balance, emphasized celebrating women’s contributions to society. “Every woman is an integral part of our society, a pillar of strength, and a catalyst for progress”. Continuing, “Today, we celebrate their resilience, their undying spirit and profound impact on our communities. We must continue to break down barriers and create opportunities that enable women to reach full potential,” he stated.

The Commissioner acknowledged the strides made towards achieving gender equality, while stressing the need for sustained efforts to tackle lingering disparities. “We must collaborate to create a world where women have equal access to education, healthcare and economic opportunities. I’m proud to note that Cross River State is setting a positive example in this regard”, he declared.

He expressed gratitude to the resilience and determination that women represent, stating that the invaluable contributions of women to every facet of society is appreciated.
