Unless you’re mainly a competitive Super Smash Bros. player, the thought of banning a particular stage from use may not ever cross your mind, but it certainly does happen, albeit rare.

Jmcrofts recently released a new video delving into these lesser known oddities of the fighting game community by highlighting some of these forbidden arenas and why no one wants to play on them.

After the brief introduction, Crofts begins his journey through the banned realms by looking at the curious case of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 where the Bonne Wonderland stage is often times the only stage allowed to be used in a tournament.

This is a pretty good example to start with because it covers most of the general reasons why stages aren’t good for competitive play in the FGC where performance issues and color saturation / poor or weird lighting can deeply impact character visibility, especially in a crazy game like Marvel.

Street Fighter 5 also infamously ended up with a multitude of tournament illegal stages over its life considering the Flamenco Tavern gave Vega and only Vega a new ability while the Skies of Honor of course made people sick just by looking at it, and that certainly isn’t all of them.

We’re not going to spoil or explain all of the picks of course, so we highly recommend checking out Jmcrofts’ full video below where you’ll also see some Guilty Gear, Darkstalkers, Street Fighter 2 and even technically Street Fighter 6.
