It’s hard to believe that it’s been over 13 years since Mortal Kombat 9 was released. Indeed, Mortal Kombat 9 was originally made available on April 19, 2011.
Back then, Ermac had the “Pest Control” Fatality as his second Fatality. At a wave of his hands, Ermac has the opponent shrunken down to a fraction of their normal size.
Of course, the opponent is still technically alive after this interaction. It wouldn’t be a true Mortal Kombat Fatality if that was the end of it all.
While the opponent is clearly panicking about their irregular lifestyle change, Ermac can be seen slowly walking over. Upon getting close enough, Ermac puts his foot down, quite literally, crushing the opposing character.
It would seem that NetherRealm Studios has opted to reference this Fatality in Mortal Kombat 1. This time around, however, the entire interaction functions as a Brutality.
By ending a match with a certain move, the Brutality “We Win” is triggered. Just like the aforementioned Fatality, the opponent is shrunken down to about the scale of a small rodent.
The enemy character will proceed to panic. Since they run in Ermac’s direction, he doesn’t even need to walk over anymore.
Once Ermac begins to raise his foot, the opponent will begin to react to the grisly fate that awaits them. They begin to exclaim “No!” with a loud and squeaky voice, but this doesn’t even slow Ermac down.
With a loud stomp, the enemy combatant becomes nothing more than a small puddle of blood and gore. It’s truly a brutal finisher.
Though it may not be intentional, Ermac appears to slide his foot backwards back into its normal position after the fact. We have to imagine that he’s smearing the residue off his shoe while doing this.
