It seems that this summer’s main footballing talking points are going to be centring around Manchester United and the future of current manager Erik ten Hag.
Despite leading the club to the FA Cup, ten Hag’s future is heavily rumoured to be under threat due to the underwhelming nature of the team’s leagues performances.
A number of names have been linked with the role. It was rumoured early on that Mauricio Pochettino was the favourite having left Chelsea at the end of the season. Then the name of former assistant manager Kieran McKenna entered the fray, before it emerged he would be staying at Ipswich Town.
And today there’s a new name being thrown into the pot.
Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla has taken to X to claim that Manchester United have had contact with Roberto de Zerbi about the manager job at Old Trafford.
Pedulla claims that de Zerbi’s profile is very popular amongst the United hierarchy and is on a list of two to three names in contention for the role.
However, he states that the club will first make a decision on the future of Erik ten Hag with no final decision on the next manager.
Either way, he seems to suggest that the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager is a favourite amongst the powers that be.
De Zerbi is himself Italian, so it could be that the Italian media know more about the situation as they may have ties to his team. However, it could also be pure speculation based on de Zerbi’s performances in England. Either way, it’s going to be an interesting summer at Old Trafford with many wondering who will be sat in the dugout at the start of the new English Premier League season.
#DeZerbi–#ManchesterUnited: no final decision, but real and confirmed contacts. It’s a profile very popular in a list of two or three names. But first the final decision on #TenHag
