Addressing newsmen in Calabar, shortly after the inauguration of the state caretaker committee, Mr Peter Okim, the newly sworn-in chairman said the Association is willing to partner government reduce the hardship faced by citizens due to the effect of subsidy removal. Adding that as the second highest employer of labour after government it's position to support government drive home her people oriented policies.
The petroleum boss averred that Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu has demonstrated interest in the sector inorder to help Cross Riverians go through the effect of subsidy removal, therefore as an association in that sector they are open to partner with him in actualising his dreams.
"Following his antecedent, the Governor has indicated interest in the sector as a means of helping Cross Riverians cope with subsidy removal as we all saw that the very first appointment he issued were in the sector in order to cauation the effect of subsidy removal and we are solidly behind him to help him achieve his people's first dream". Okim noted.
Speaking Further, Okim pleaded with the Otu's led administration not to look the other way when there's need to ensure the association is on tract as they now need each other to grow the state. Okim said amidst the difficulties and challenges facing Nigerians it will always put the state's interest and that of Nigerians ahead of theirs while alluding to the fact that personal interest had been a challenge amongst Independent Marketers but his executive have agreed to let it be a thing or the past.
He used the opportunity to address the issue of multiple taxation in the sector stating that Over taxing has crippled many economy as no meaningful government will over tax its people having known the effect of such act.
Also speaking was the immediate past chairman of IPMAN In Cross River Mr Lawrence Nwoko who revealed that his association has made frantic efforts in supporting the implementation of government policies that borders on elevating people's.
He said the National chairman of IMPAN has through the federal government introduce the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as an alternative to petrol, kerosene and diesel to caution the effect of the removal of fuel subsidy.
He added haven test run the project in Abuja plans are on ground to carry out the state to state campaign on CNG while plans are on ground to designate to some petrol stations for the sale of the CNG product and cars will be converted to CNG compliant.
and urge the federal government to provide money available for conversion and be reminded that the removal of fuel subsidy is for the good of all.
Nwoko urged the newly inaugurated Exco be united as work in unite and work as a formidable team while assuring them of his maximum support.
