The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital recently lost a
22-year-old female, named Christabel Itodo to the dreaded monster 'Lassa fever'.
NHB garnered that the deceased who finally gave up at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, UCTH just after a dozen hours of her being brought in was said to have prior to this time, taken ill in Benue state and was being treated but on seeing that her condition was deteriorating, she requested to be transferred to the “people's paradise” (Cross River), so she could be close to her loved ones, especially her heart throb- Soldier husband who was stationed in Calabar.
It was learnt that the sickness had gotten worse before she was brought in to be admitted to UCTH; All efforts made by experts to revive and save her life proved abortive as she unfortunately bade farewell to mother earth, after 12 hours of being admitted into UCTH.
Corroborating the story was Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Thomas Agan, who told reporters that they were actually 'on top of the situation' and there was no cause for panic.
He however disclosed that all hospital personnel who attended to the deceased have been quarantined so as to contain a possible spread of illness .
