CALABAR – The Cross River State Government has taken decisive action in response to the increasing insecurity plaguing Bakassi and Akpabuyo Local Government Areas. In a move to protect lives and prevent further chaos, the government has imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the affected areas.
The announcement was made through a statement signed by Professor Anthony Owan Enoh, the Secretary to the State Government, titled "Public Announcement." While the statement did not provide detailed reasons for the curfew, reliable sources indicate that the decision stems from the alarming rise in rival cult-related clashes and kidnappings in the region.
To address the prevailing security threats and maintain law and order, His Excellency Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, the Governor of Cross River State, has mandated a curfew from 7 pm to 6 am every day, commencing on Monday, July 3, 2023. During these designated hours, the movement of individuals and vehicles will be restricted.
The public is strongly urged to comply with these directives in their own best interest. Adhering to the curfew is vital to ensuring personal safety and averting further deterioration of the security situation. The Cross River State Government remains committed to tackling the challenges posed by insecurity and will take necessary measures to restore peace and stability in the affected LGAs.
