The Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has presented two hi-tech unmanned water vessels to President Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
The unmanned ships, according to a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the ministry, Henshaw Ogubike, were donated to the Nigerian government by Swift Ship Company in the United States.
The vessels are expected to help in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria’s waterways in particular and the country in general.
Matawalle while presenting the two versions of the equipment, the S2 and S3 Swift Sea Stalkers to Tinubu, said the equipment were the latest technologies that would be deployed to fight insecurity in the Niger Delta, Lake Chad region and other maritime regions of the country.
He said the donation was the outcome of his recent working visit to some companies in the US.
Matawalle stressed that the visit was to encourage partnership with US companies in the production of military hardware locally in Nigeria in collaboration with Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON).
