The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has refuted the news making the rounds on social media concerning Frank Akpan, the alleged killer of Iniubong Umoren.
The news that was shared on Facebook, Twitter and other social media networks alleged that Frank Akpan was found dead in the Police cell at Ikot Akpanabia State command on Thursday morning.
The story added that Akpan had hung himself using his trousers by tying it to the metal frame of his cell door – and that the suspect was last seen alive by 19:30pm yesterday (Wednesday) when he was served his evening meal of bread and edikang-ikong soup.
However, when contacted on phone on Thursday evening, SP Odiko Macdon Ogbeche, Police Public Relations Officer in Akwa Ibom State told THE PARADISE that the information is “false”.
Ogbeche said: “It is not possible for a suspect to wear trousers in the Police custody, talkless of committing suicide.
“The information is false. It is the figment of the imagination of the writer right from the pit of hell. And I am sorry for those who are gullible enough to believe such a person”, he added.
Recall that Iniubong Umoren, a 26-year-old fresh graduate of Philosophy from the University of Uyo was gruesomely murdered while seeking a job in Akwa Ibom State.
She was last seen on April 29, 2021, at about 1:00pm before she went to honour the job appointment with Akpan who promised her a job through Twitter chat after her post saying she needed a job.
She was later confirmed dead by her friend, Uduak Umoh two weeks ago.
Frank Akpan and a couple of others were arrested with their link to Umoren’s death.
