Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is a team-based Versus style fighting game that sees each of two players select their team of two in-game fighters to jump into battle with. Each player has a point character that is the main one being controlled at any given time, and they can actively switch into their other character and vice versa at any time so long as both characters still have health.
Capcom’s 2017 fighting title is a 2-player game at maximum, but what might this game look like if it was opened up to being a 4-player game with all characters on screen at the same time and each player controlling one each? Maximilian has answered that question with the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Beyond mod, and it is every bit of crazy, chaotic, and awesome as you’d expect it to be.
During one of his recent live streams, Max and his buddies took the currently in development mod for a spin and tried out one of the new modes that is being added to it. This additional game mode allows players to jump into wild 4-player battles where both characters from both teams are all on point and being controlled simultaneously.
Max addressed some things about this mode over on Twitter to provide some clarification about things fans were wondering about. For starters, he notes that this 4-player mode is “shockingly functional” in its current state and is a ton of fun to play.
This mode essentially makes Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite into something akin to Riot Games’ upcoming title 2XKO, where players can pair up on one team and face off against another pair of players on another team — with the obvious distinction of not having all characters on screen at once.
“Space Stone boxes one person. Soul isn’t as good, but still gives you a revive,” Max continued about the Infinity Stones in this mode. “Mind stone is great for the extra meter. Blocking works like it already does during Soul Storm.”
What’s interesting is that Max, who is personally working on the Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite and Beyond mod, says that it feels like the original game was designed to feature a full 4-player mode like this. From the looks of the footage, it does appear to function quite well, minus the kinks that still need to be ironed out with the mod itself.
Bear witness to the madness that is four player Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite below, and let us know if you’d be interested in jumping into this mode yourself in the comments.
