Tonight Marvel vs. Capcom fans will be treated to something extra special that has been in the works for a while. Though it’s not a brand new installment in the beloved franchise, what we do have might be the closest thing we can get right now to a new game in the series.
Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite & Beyond is a total overhaul mod for Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite that aims to heavily improve the visuals, add revamped gameplay, and even introduce new modes. A live stream presentation is being held right now (at the time this story went live) that will feature a full on gameplay demonstration for the upcoming mod.
Spearheaded by avid Marvel vs. Capcom series fan and prominent FGC figurehead Maximilian, this project has enlisted the work of incredibly talented developer Ryn to take on the gargantuan task of essentially fixing Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite. Of course, others are lending their talents to this project as well, such as Alex Moukala who is composing new music for the mod.
According to the official MvCI&B Twitter page, this live stream is set to showcase three months of work on this incredible new mod. Based on the recent screenshots we’ve seen of the game, this mod is already looking absolutely fantastic.
The biggest improvement fans will notice right away when looking at Beyond is its massively improved visual style. Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite is infamous for having some pretty rough visuals as the developers aimed for a more realistic graphics style likely to better coincide with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Unfortunately, that didn’t translate over well to the Marvel vs. Capcom series. Instead, Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite & Beyond opts for a bright and colorful comic book style that looks closer to something we’d see out of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 — and it’s a great choice for this game.
The modders have even taken on the impossible feat of correcting the atrocities that are Chun-Li and Dante’s faces in the original MvCI, and I’m excited to see how they’re looking here in the latest build of the game.
You can catch the live stream below, which is set to feature Maximilian himself as he breaks down what all is happening with the mod and shows off the latest gameplay.
