INEC declares Soludo winner of Anambra 2025 governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the winner of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.

The Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Edoba Omoregie, made the declaration at the INEC Headquarters in Awka, on Sunday at the end of the collation of results from the 21 local government areas of the state.

Soludo, having polled a total of 422,664 votes defeated his closest rival and the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, who polled 99,445 while the candidate of the Young Progressives Party, Sir Paul Chukwuma polled 37,753 to come third.

According to INEC, 16 candidates from 16 political parties participated in the just-concluded election.

The state has a total of 2,788,864 registered voters and 598,229 were accredited for the election while a total of 595,298 votes were cast. A total of 11,244 votes were rejected across the 21 local government areas in the state.

From the results announced, the candidate of the APGA candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, won in all the 21 local government areas in a landslide.

Speaking further after declaring the result, Prof Omoregie said, “The number of registered voters was 2,788,864 while accredited voters was 598,229. Total valid votes was 584,054, while rejected votes was 11,244 and total votes cast was 595,298.”

He said, “After collating the result as tallied into Form EC8E, it is now my privilege to mention the figures each candidate got according to their political parties.

“When the various polling officers were announcing their results, they mentioned that there some wards area affected by incidents which meant some results were cancelled and we asked them to fill a form.

“The affected areas include Anambra West, Anaocha, Awka South and Onitsha South LGAs where the area affected had 10,481. And when we calculated the number of lead between the highest number of votes and in view of this, the margin did not in anyway affect the result.

“I am Prof. Edoba Omoregie, I am the returning officer of this 2025 Anambra State governorship election, I hereby declared that the election was peaceful.

“Chukwuma Soludo of the APGA having scored 422,664 to become the highest number of votes in this election, having satisfied the requirements of the law and got the highest votes is declared the winner and is returned elected.”
