Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 was recently revealed to be part of the Evo 2023 lineup. Needless to say, players are returning to the grind with the 3v3 fighting game released back in 2011.
Due to this, it seems that many serious competitors are putting in work to best prepare themselves for Phoenix — more specifically, Dark Phoenix. Indeed, the best way to deal with the Dark Phoenix scenario is to never let it happen in the first place.
Phoenix puts a special emphasis on the phrase “glass cannon” in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Though her stamina is vastly lower than the rest of the roster’s, Phoenix behaves as an absolutely insane win condition if the player is just able to achieve five bars of hyper gauge before her health bar is depleted.
However, it’s actually possible possible to interrupt the Dark Phoenix transformation altogether. By simply landing one hit against the Dark Phoenix, a death combo is almost assured thanks to the character’s pitiful stamina rating.
Alternatively, a player can instead opt to put Dark Phoenix in a scenario where she is forced to block two or three mix ups. Draining the opponent of some of their precious meter also works extremely well as Dark Phoenix’s transformation can’t happen without a full five bars of meter.

Don’t forget that Spider-Man also has a unique way of dealing with Dark Phoenix when his Web Throw is paired up with X-Factor.
