Exactly two months ago, Project L was officially revealed with the title 2XKO as the League of Legends fighting game spin-off after years of building up behind the scenes.
Riot Games released a new trailer and developer breakdown of their latest champion for 2XKO in Illaoi, and she’ll be playable very soon.
Although she was previously announced for the 2v2 fighter, this is our first real chance to see the Kraken Priestess in action and learn more about her playstyle.
As could be expected by her appearance, Illaoi appears to be a big body brawler type character with big strikes and swings though that’s not all she’s capable of.
The other major part of her gameplan looks to be using her Kraken to plant space traps on the stage with tentacles to grab the opponent or hit them around for combo extensions.
Following the brief trailer, Riot Game Designer Caroline Montano comes in to talk about Illaoi and go further in depth on her moves and unique mechanics along with more gameplay footage.
She can reposition her tentacles after they’re placed, but opponents can hit them to make the traps disappear for more balanced counterplay.
Illaoi’s level one Super slams the enemy around multiple times while her level two summons giant tentacles that strike around on the stage, and her ultimate drags down the opposition into the depths to be big fish food.
Illaoi will be playable later this week at Evo Japan 2024 from April 27–29 as part of the 2XKO demo available to attendees presumably alongside previously playable champions like Darius, Ekko, Ahri, and Yasuo.
2XKO is currently in development for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC with a launch window set for sometime in 2025.
