Over 1,000 women on Wednesday, protested against what they term disenfranchisement in the just concluded Igweship election in Ndiowu community, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The threatened to stormed Anambra Government in protest, if the State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo failed to address them in a short possible time.
Recall that the community under the supervision of the State Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy matters led by Hon Ikechukwu Mgbike, held the election that produce Chief Chibuzor Okeke with total winning votes of 506 against his four other rivals,:, Mr Onyeka Kanu- 2 votes, Onyeka Ekwueme -2 votes, Ogochukwu Nwankwo -2 votes and Obuneme Okeke – non respectively.

Reacting further on the development on behalf of the women, Mrs. Ifeoma Omenuko, accused the state government of disenfranchising them during the process they unanimously claimed, it didn’t hold in accordance with the community’s constitution.
According to her, this is the first time in the history of this community, women are not allowed to vote in Ndiowu community election. We want this Igweship election cancelled for the sake of peace, unity and togetherness.
She equally appeal passionately to governor.Soludo to order the cancellation of the election to avoid total break down of law and order in the town
The protest that took place at the community’s town hall, accompany with placards with various inscription such as “Women must votes, women must vote any election in Ndiowu community, No outsider to decide for Ndiowu, we say no to 12th Eze election 2026, the first Eze was suggested by uma-ada-Ndiowu and not government, among others.
