The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun has ordered regular and continuous reorientation courses, arms drills and baton and rifle exercises for all police personnel across the country.
The IGP disclosed this in a statement signed by the spokesperson of the police force, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi on Friday.
The statement quoted the IGP’s remarks at the Passing out Parade of personnel of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) on a two-week retraining program held at SPU Training School in Dei-Dei, Abuja.
The IGP reaffirmed his commitment to repositioning the police through modern global practices through training and retraining of police officers.
The event featured a brief display of martial arts skills and, an assimilation test comprising stripping and assembling of a firearm with one hand, either with eyes open or blindfolded in Abuja.
The Assistant Inspector General (AIG) SPU, AIG Okon Effiong, reiterated the readiness to cascade such training to all Commands and Formations of the police in line with the directive of the IGP.
Effoing was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) SPU Sabastine Dongshal.
