The legendary Evo Moment 37 is so iconic that it is frequently recreated in any Street Fighter-related games (and sometimes other fighters) that have a parry mechanic. This classic play that featured Daigo Umehara’s godlike parry and punish sequence against Justin Wong during Evo 2004’s Street Fighter 3: Third Strike tournament is still revered as one of, if not, the greatest fighting game highlight to ever take place even 20 years later.
Fans who manage to pull off the actual sequence in Third Strike nowadays will often record it and share it on social media as a well-earned badge of honor, but there are also other characters who can do equally impressive sequences against Chun-Li in the game — minus the pressure and Evo’s big stage, of course. If a Dudley version of Evo Moment 37 were to happen in tournament, we could only hope it would look something like the clip we have for you here.
3SCL|ChikoPS2 is an exceptional Street Fighter 3: Third Strike player who tied for 17th at Evo 2024 in the game, which happened to be a main stage game this year. This Dudley player uploaded a snippet of footage to Twitter recently that displays a fantastic sequence that includes an extensive parry against one of Chun-Li’s super and an absolutely fire punish to close it out.
During one of ChikoPS2’s live streams, the gentleman boxer took on a Chun-Li player in a first-to-five set. The clip begins with a scramble in the corner that ultimately leads to the Chun-Li jumping out of said corner and meeting ChikoPS2 with an air to air attack that resets the pugilist.
Both players land at the same time and are within point blank range of each other, and because of this the Chun-Li opts to fire off a big Kikosho super to hopefully catch ChikoPS2 either hitting a button or attempting a throw. Neither of those things were in play, however, as instead the Dudley player parries all 20 hits of this giant projectile leaving Chun-Li fully open to a punish combo.
ChikoPS2 does not disappoint here as we see Dudley walk forward for a quick second before getting the party started with standing heavy kick into EX Machine Gun Blow. Since both fighters are close to the corner during this exchange, the Machine Gun Blow carries Chun fully into the corner where Dudley is able to get what looks to be an extremely optimal juggle combo featuring several crouching heavy kick launchers, two supers, and a couple of uppercuts for good measure.
The parry here was godlike and the combo makes the whole thing that much sweeter. Check out this incredible Third Strike sequence below.
