Marcus Rashford has the look of a player who ‘doesn’t like football’ at the moment, according to talkSPORT’s Gabby Agbonlahor.

The Manchester United forward has endured a hugely frustrating campaign at Old Trafford after failing to hit the heights of previous seasons.

Rashford has found it hard to nail down a spot in the starting line-up since Ralf Rangnick’s appointment as interim manager, with his lack of regular game time limiting him to just five goals in all competitions so far this term.

While every player will endure a loss of form from time to time, former Premier League star Agbonlahor told the talkSPORT Breakfast that the 24-year-old has looked unhappy of late.

The ex-Aston Villa captain even claimed Rasshford would probably take the chance to sit out the rest of the season, if offered some time off.

Asked by Alan Brazil about the forward’s severe drop in form, Agbonlahor replied: “I don’t know, he just looks like he doesn’t like football.

“He looks like a player who is playing, but doesn’t want to play football at the moment.

“For me, Rashford doesn’t work on the right side of midfield. He has to play as a centre-forward or on the left, and I prefer him on the left, cutting inside onto his right foot.

“Rashford has been outstanding coming in from that left side, but this season he looks like a player who doesn’t want to play football.

“If you said to him to take two months off to clear his head, I think he’d take it.

“There’s no excitement, no smile on his face. He used to always be smiling and now he’s moody.”

Rashford’s lack of form and output this season had led to reports he could be on his way out of Manchester United this summer, while he has also been dropped from the latest England squad.

He was not the only one, with Red Devils teammate Jadon Sancho also omitted by Gareth Southgate.

And, after a video went viral on social media of Rashford responding to heckling fans outside Old Trafford, the Three Lions boss revealed he will sit down and talk to Rashford in the coming weeks to ‘help if we can’.

The England manager told talkSPORT’s Faye Carruthers: “We always want to see our players enjoying their football and playing well.

“You would have to have a bit of a question mark on both of those things at the moment.

“We’ve got to try to help if we can, but that’s a lot more difficult when you’re not working with the players every day.

“I will spend some time with him when we’re finished this camp. I’ve known him a long time. He was in a couple of Under-21s squads with us.

“In the end, you’ve got to find a way as a player. It’s not always about coaches resolving things,” he added, emphasising the need for the player to push himself at the same time.

“This is a period where he’s got to show the strength of character to come through.

“It would be beneficial for me to sit with him. He hasn’t been in many of our squads. We’ve picked him a lot and he hasn’t been able to meet up.

“That would be time well spent.”
