Idemili North Chairman sign anti-cultism, land grabbing, taunting law to curb menace

The Executive Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State, Hon Stanley Nkwoka, has signed Anti-Cultism, land grabbing and taunting by-law to curbed criminalities in the area.

The signing ceremony took place at the council’s conference hall in Ogidi on Friday.

Speaking to Journalists shortly after the ceremony that attracted the presence of youth leaders from the 11 communities that constitute the council area, Nkwoka said the law is to prohibit the existence, membership and activities of secret cults, land grabbing and taunting in Council area.

According to the Chairman, the law will work hand in hand with security agencies to check the spate of kidnapping, cultism and other forms of violent crimes cross the council jurisdiction.

“Traditional rulers, religion leaders and other relevant stakeholders will not be left out on the enforcement to ensure that the ugly incidences are tackled and peace restore.

“What I want is peace in Idemili North Local Government Area.

“I signed the Anti-kidnapping, Land grabbing, Cultism and Violence-related Matters bill presented to me by the leader of Idemili North LGAs  Congress Councillor, Hon Samanuel Arinzechukwu into law to curb the menaces.

“By that law, anyone cut involving in the above mentioned crime will attract various terms of imprisonment in accordance with the Anambra State Home Land Security Law 2022 signed into law by governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo.

Nkwoka emphasis that his administration was committed to ensure the security of lives and property, foster peaceful coexistence and also deal with crime and criminality in the area.

He expressed his confidence in the effectiveness of community policing in tackling security challenges in the area, adding that proactiveness is required in preventing crimes through intelligence gathering and ensuring rapid response to any distress.

“The Law is expected to assist law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, in intelligence gathering and other security operations,”

“The Chairman said security agencies also needed support and prayers to succeed in protecting lives and property and urged residents to be security conscious in their daily activities.

He equally urged the public not to demonise security personnel rather to supported them with useful information to aid their performance.

In his brief presentation remark, the leader of Idemili North Congress of Councillors, Hon Arinzechukwu, commended the Chairman for his bold decision to eradicate violent crime in the area.
