Ian Wright has boldly claimed that he cannot see one of Manchester United’s summer signings ever making it at the club.

He explained that United’s transfer business has not been satisfactory if they hope to win titles in the near future.

The Red Devils spent almost £180million on arrivals in the summer but have, so far, failed to improve on a miserable eight-place finish last season.

Ian Wright argued that the purchase of Joshua Zirkzee has not worked in United’s favour up to this point.

Ian Wright on Joshua Zirkzee

‘I’m looking at Zirkzee and Hojlund, and when you look at both of them, and you say, going forward as a Man United player, that’s going to take Man United to that level where they need to be,’ he said.

‘Top four, Champions League, trying to win the Premier League.

‘I can’t see, with whatever formation I have in my head, Zirkzee making it at the moment, with what I’ve seen up to this point.’

Meanwhile, the former Arsenal striker praised Zirkzee’s strike partner Rasmus Hojlund and argued that he has a bright future.

Rasmus Hojlund Comparison

‘I could see Hojlund [making it],’ he went on to say on the Wrighty’s House podcast.

‘Hojlund looks like a future player, with better players around him, and I say that because of that chance he took the other day – that little, lovely little chip he took.

‘He gives me the impression that if he gets himself in and around that box, and he’s got an opportunity to finish, and his chances arecoming, he can go hot.’

‘I don’t see the same with Zirkzee.

‘I look at Zirkzee and the way he moves around, I don’t see anything in his game that makes me feel okay, there it is, I see what he can do.’

Zirkzee has only managed one goal since joining United for £37m in the summer.

In the last few weeks, his minutes have been incredibly sporadic – the Dutchman only started one of Erik ten Hag’s last five games.

In Ruud van Nistelrooy’s first game against Leicester, he was given the nod over Hojlund but failed to impress.

He was demoted to the bench against Chelsea and was again ommited from the starting XI against PAOK tonight.
