As part of his keynote address to a cross section of youths in a programme to mark the United Nations International Youth Day celebration organised by Youth Aflame Int’l, the youth wing of a burgeoning Christian denomination in Calabar, Bible Christian Crusaders Mission (BCCM) located at 55 Webber Street, the Special Assistant to the Executive Governor of Cross River State on Youth Affairs, Prince Edward Osim on Saturday 13 August amongst other things informed the youthful audience that he had no godfather, submitting that himself and God were his mentors, ‘God is my only mentor, I have no godfather. My only mentor is God. I am my mentor’.
The Governor’s aide who noted that the present political leadership in the state was largely the product of three eminent Cross Riverians, Donald Duke, Liyel Imoke and Gershom Bassey observed that nobody is poor except by poverty one means the poverty of ideas. In his words, ‘When we talk about poverty, nobody is poor. We have mentality poverty’.
SA Osim further noted that part of Nigeria’s contemporary developmental impasse stems from the trend of successive governments not practicing the culture of continuity. ‘We are all selfish beings… Governments come and don’t continue the projects of the previous governments, they come up with their own’.
During the course of his keynote address, SA Osim told the audience that he is not inspired by motivational books claiming that what worked for the one may not work for the other. However, he cautioned against the audience adopting his opinion wholesale. He also noted that as Christian youth our greatest book is the Bible. Again, he observed that virtually everyone wants to be a leader, they want to lead others except themselves. He stressed that the best form of leadership is leading oneself, ‘I don’t read motivational books, but don’t be like me. It may work for me but it may not work for you. I believe in myself… I have come to inspire everybody to stop wanting to lead others but lead themselves… Until we begin to lead ourselves, there’s no leadership’.
‘Many years ago I told myself, I will never look for a job. I was the last of seven. Five of my sibling graduated and were still unemployed. So, I told myself I will never look for a job’, SA Osim who incidentally is the CEO of Eddyliz further noted.
SA Osim informed that he was happy with the present economic trend bedevilling the country, saying that it may be a blessing in disguise aimed at challenging our hitherto overt dependence on oil. ‘I love what is happening in Nigeria… He may have brought Buhari to make us face difficulties to redirect our focus on oil’.

He reiterated his stance when he revealed that ‘Nigeria cannot help me and you, me and you can help Nigeria. We owe Nigeria because Nigeria gives us a sense of belonging and origin’.
