Sevilla’s coach, Garcia Pimienta has revealed that the club did not disrespect Super Eagles forward, Kelechi Iheanacho after he suggested that he should leave the club.
Iheanacho has struggled for form and game time in Spain since he joined the club in the summer after leaving Leicester City.
A few days ago, Pimienta urged Iheanacho to leave the club in order to regain his form after a poor return of three goals in 11 appearances.
The report generated criticisms from Nigerians and former Super Eagles coach, Finidi George, who claimed Sevilla has disrespected Iheanacho.
Finidi said: “I think they have disrespected him in many ways.
“They expected a lot from him when he arrived, but it’s still early days, and he hasn’t been given enough time to settle in. In my opinion, he should leave the club if any good offers come along.
“He is 28 and still has a lot to offer, but he needs to be at a place where he is truly appreciated. Returning to England would be a great option, but he could also explore opportunities in new environments.”
Pimienta has denied that the club disrespected Iheanacho, while urging him to decide on his future.
He said: “We have not disrespected Iheanacho at any time. He has played less than I expected, he is an international player, established and Isaac has played more.
”It is possible that he has options in European football but he has not played, just like other teammates, and no one has been disrespected. I think he will have offers and he will decide. If he stays there will be no problem.”
He is yet to score in the La Liga despite playing nine times for the club as they battle for consistency.
The 28-year-old has been linked with a return to England with the likes of Watford, Ipswich Town, and Wolverhampton Wanderers all interested in signing the former Leicester City forward.
He enjoyed a successful time at the King Power Stadium, playing a vital role in leading the club to the FA Cup trophy in 2021 and also the Community Shield.
