How well has Captain Falcon placed on tier lists throughout the Super Smash Bros. series?

Honest Content recently released an interesting video that details Captain Falcon’s tier history throughout the Super Smash Bros. series. As one of the original 12 characters of Super Smash Bros. 64, Captain Falcon has been present in every entry of the Super Smash Bros. series to date.

Captain Falcon has had plenty of time being seen as both a high tier and bottom tier across different games. Funnily enough, there was actually a time where Captain Falcon was disregarded as being a weak character in Super Smash Bros. Melee despite what he’s become today.

The reason why Captain Falcon was initially believed to be around low tier was due to how radical the changes were coming from Super Smash Bros. 64. In that game, Captain Falcon’s game plan heavily relied on performing ladder combos, which were completely removed during the transition to Super Smash Bros. Melee.

As a result, there was a learning curve involved with playing Captain Falcon more defensively in specific match ups. Over the course of Melee’s lifespan, Captain Falcon went from being ranked as the 15th or 16th character on tier lists, to being the sixth best character.

Unfortunately, Super Smash Bros. Brawl pretty much removed everything that was ever good about previous versions of Captain Falcon. Without a reliable way to start combos, Captain Falcon had virtually no redeeming qualities about him.

Super Smash Bros. 4 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate would do a good job of returning Captain Falcon to his former glory, but he was never quite as strong as he was during the days of Smash 64 or Melee. Check out Honest Content’s video below to hear about the entire history:
