Since its debut in the original Mortal Kombat back in October 1992, Scorpion’s Spear Throw has become one of the most iconic moves in gaming. However, we have to wonder just how practical this type of technique is in real life.
Back in early November, Shadiversity released a video that had them testing out the idea of throwing a spear or kunai tied to a rope against a target. Needless to say, shenanigans occurred throughout the video.
It turns out that getting the blade to actually stick into the target is actually quite difficult. With a lot of throws, the user is more likely to just bludgeon what they’re trying to hit with the blade rather than stabbing it.
One might think that this problem could be solved by applying more force or power with the throw, but this ended up not being the case. Throughout the many tests, it was demonstrated that a simple underhanded lob was the most effective method of getting the blade to stick in the target.
However, the hosts of the video were never actually able to get the blade sufficiently stuck into their targets to pull off an actual pull motion. Even when they manually just inserted the blade and tied the rope around the target, pulling on the rope simply just caused the object to fall onto the ground, though this probably could’ve been addressed with a stronger pull.
Still, the hosts mentioned that there’s a certain danger of doing this in real life since the blade could end up stabbing them if they aren’t careful. Check it all out in the video below:
