CHICO — During times of disaster, there is nothing like the compassion shown by north state residents. Here’s how you can help the victims and local responders of the Park Fire.
Hope Center in Oroville is serving as the hub for Park Fire victim donations, 2620 S. Fifth Ave., Oroville. Hours are Tuesdays through Fridays, from 9 a.m. to noon if temperature reach triple digits; or 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. when temps are below 100.
Bring shelf-stable food, snacks, bottled water, hygiene items for men and women, gas cards, cat and dog food. Please do not bring clothing, bedding, household items, or kitchen items.
Financial donations are being requested by locally based, first responder organizations including Butte County Search and Rescue, and North Valley Animal Disaster Group.
Both are nonprofit organizations, and donations are tax deductible. Donations can be made online or by mail.
Butte County Search and Rescue is an all-volunteer, nonprofit, nontax-supported organization. Online buttesar.org or PO Box 542 Chico 95927.
North Valley Animal Disaster Group also is a nonprofit organization. Donations can be made online at nvadg.org or by mailing to PO Box 441 Chico 95927.
The Northern California Chapter of the American Red Cross is a nonprofit organization as well, and is involved in supplying services and relief to the shelters. Donations can be made online at www.redcross.org/local/california/gold-country or by mailing a check to PO Box 3568, Chico 95927.
These organizations are always looking for volunteers, but generally have training sessions to attend first. Information on volunteering is available on their websites.
