Taylor Swift has cast her spell on another member of the Chiefs Kingdom. This time, it’s Defensive backs coach Dave Merritt who’s singing her praises.
Merritt has been vocal about the positive influence he believes the Grammy-winning singer had on Travis Kelce, his star tight end. He’s also convinced that Swift’s presence had a significant impact on the Kansas City team. This influence was particularly evident in their journey to the 2024 Super Bowl victory.
Merritt shared his thoughts on the Feb. 23 episode of The Sports Shop With Reese & Kmac. The episode aired less than a fortnight after the big game. “She actually affected the team in a positive way,” he said.
He went on to explain the team’s reaction to Travis’s happiness. “Everybody was excited that Travis was happy. So when my player, my brother, is happy beside me, that helps me and that encourages me.”
Merritt has noticed a change in Travis since he started dating Swift in the summer. “And so Travis came in there a different man,” he added. “So she helped us.”
The coach even jokingly credited Swift with the team’s Super Bowl win. “She won a Super Bowl in her first year in the NFL,” he quipped. “How about that?”
Swift was a regular fixture at the Chiefs’ games throughout the season. TV broadcasts and live streams often showed her cheering on her boyfriend from a stadium suite. This drew a mixed bag of reactions from the viewers.
