Towards the end of Street Fighter 5’s main story mode, Ryu had dealt a decisive blow against M. Bison. Despite being thought of as dead, M. Bison has returned in Street Fighter 6 as the first DLC fighter of Season 2.
Before and after the announcement that M. Bison would be returning in Street Fighter 6, Katsuhiro Harada of Bandai Namco reiterated that Heihachi Mishima was completely dead. Needless to say, those statements didn’t age too well.
It turns out that Heihachi Mishima is slated to be the third DLC fighter for Tekken 8. He’ll apparently also play a major role in the upcoming story expansion for Tekken 8.
In a recent video upload, Rooflemonger opted to answer the question as to why these villains keep coming back. It’s even been speculated that Geese Howard may return specifically for Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves despite being canonically dead by this point in the story.
Ultimately, the main reasons for M. Bison and Heihachi returning is due to their popularity. Of course, it’s also worth noting that Heihachi is said to be Katsuhiro Harada’s favorite Tekken character while M. Bison is the favorite of Shuhei Matsumoto, Producer of Street Fighter 6.
Of course, it’s worth pointing out that M. Bison and Heihachi both have a history of returning from the grave, though these latest situations felt like they had some finality to them. Needless to say, it would seem that some fighting game villains will forever keep coming back so long as they remain popular.
