Calabar, Cross River State capital has recently been experiencing incidents of security threats packaged in cult gangs rivalry, broad daylight armed robbery attacks, bag snatching, kidnappings, militancy, etc.
On Wednesday 6 July there was an armed robbery incident that took place in Calabar metropolis around Marian Road about when the governor returned from his overseas travels, where about 4-6 heavily armed men of the under world raided shops, restaurants, streets etc in broad daylight carting away with valuables ranging from cars, monies, etc. There have been other incidents. Below is a cross section of how indigenes and residents of the state capital, Calabar are responding to the robbery incidents:

Am a witness to this, a Toyota Camry, was snatched right in front of me along Ikot Effa by Parliamentary, while they abandoned the Golf they had. Something has to done and fast. The moral this guys have this days is shocking.
Sunny Martins Uncommon
True and confirmed…i took to my heels too#lol

Una dey waste una time. He'll read all these and will be like, “when una tire una go stop”. The next thing, he'll go sign an MoU with a company in China, to produce for him the loudest siren, so that everyone is forced to step out from his bedroom when he is passing. #abegmakeigodanceshokie

Everything about CRS is upsidedown. Very soon d Governor houseboys would come nd deny or attack us. What a shame.
Awoh Awoh Kingsley
…after, some fools cum bootlickers will write boring essays on how the governor is signing MoUs in xyz countries…and how he is wooing and romancing ghosts to come and invest in his illusive ephemeral dreams…Cross River state has never experience incompetent as demonstrated by this super 'one chance' governor…

Why do u want to paint Calabar black this is what APC did in Jonathan's regime and now see were Nigeria is pls. Do not allow any body use u to destroy our beautiful state. Thank u.

2019 loading. Can't wait to step out and vote out this incompetent, senseless, lousy, irresponsible govt of MoUs. So, so annoying. Why has this Prof. decided to fail us and bring shame to the North of CR and Atams?

With these insecurities in a city once known to be the most peaceful city in the Country, you can understand in part while Americans will die defending the right to bear arms. I think, the residents of Calabar have a God given right to protect their lifes and property if the Government is not willing and unable to protect them.
Callyboy Bernard
Information not true. Robbers were four in number, stole a safe containing money from a tile shop in Marian and fled the scene using a Toyota Camry vehicle stolen from an unsuspecting guy nearby. Not stolen from the car stand.
Tk Eyo
What's not true abt d information, the four weren't still armed robbers, they didn't rob or get away with Toyota Camry? Paul never said they stole the Toyota Camry from the car stand.
Amiokama Ofem
Look how we lost the only serene and peaceful state in Naija.
Joseph Bucham
Cross River is one of the most insecure state in Nigeria. The reasons Cross River appeared to be peaceful, is because they believed in love, but when the unexpected happen, or wing blow, that's when you will see a helpless situation and how helpless we are in Cross River. Na God the drive them away before oo, not by our power oo.

Wow! That's serious… A new shopping franchise has been opened in Calabar and this kind of issues can give the metropolis a bad name which will stall other guys from investing.
Pretoria Mamilodi
YOU WILL AGREE WITH ME THAT THIS CANT HAPPEN / CONTINUE DURING GOVERNOR DONALD DUKE'S TIME IN OFFICE
Pollet Bassey

” Broad day”? Most of the robbery done in day light but nobody seems to follow them up….its rather bad
Viktor Necus-Agba
Heard the gun shots. It's unfortunate.

Odok tell us where the moon is.
Jake tuku
When d moon is sighted, robbery will be gone

This is terrible. Peaceful Calabar has turned to something else. In Ayade's administration. This is Ben Ayade's achievements as Governor of CRS… The governor Ben Ayade is the chief security of the state. He has failed woefully in his duties. He met a peaceful state when Liyel Imoke handed over to him(Ayade) . Ayade has not only scattered the state, but he has destroy, made it dirty and turn the state to robbery state.
Christy Ikpeme Ayi
Doesn't the Governor have a role to play wen it has 2 do wit security? Am sure he has d authority to call all d security forces together n give a standing order to ensure peace. We've neva seen dis kind of insecurity in Calabar b4 and so any govt that has d intrest of its citizens shd be bothered and make a move. How will investors come n invest wen they are nt safe.
Engr Joseph Egumandi
What pains me most is when a serious matter is being discussed one ignorantly filled buffoon will jump in to tag those dicussing anti government rather than profound ideas to help solving the Menace… So annoying Na. We base in Calabar because of the peaceful environment now where do we take our family to? One can't sleep again. Always gunshots. We don't know if its police or the fake ones
Joseph Angip
Hahahaha! Police which way to follow? to stop crime or be in crime?
Ifere Bernard
If every body has a gun, no body could be so bold to attempt what the robbers did in Calabar. There is what is call powerlessness of power_ a situation whereby you have the power but can not use it. So let guns be free for every body so that one person will not fell stronger than the other…… mutual respect.
Pius Adie Ipuye
Interesting, what then is the role of the police budget in the federation accounts? Very soon we will be saying that because a state government donated transformers to a distribution company, when the light goes off we blame the state government… The blame should first of all go to the primary funding agent. That is my point.
Here in FCT, there was a day I saw a Police Commissioner chasing armed robbers himself. The bad guys abandoned their vehicle along Nyanya road and equally the evidence against them. My brother, you wl not believe it but it is true that they were all Police Mobile guys. One of them left his pass in the vehicle. If the people are robbed and the police refuse to respond, the Commissioner or the DPO as the case maybe should be the first to be blamed.
How many trips has he made to Louise Edet's house complaining of lack of equipment?
Is it not that we encourage the state government to dabble into such findings that some of them spirit out chunks of funds in the name of security votes? This is time for change and change must be comprehensive. Old things and method need to be amended.

Calabar Tourism Destination has become the home of robbers?

Earlier today, dare devil, heavily armed robbers held the commercial nerve centre of the capital city of my home state, Cross River hostage for hours. The siege occurred along the length of Marian road, which like I said earlier, is the commercial nerve centre and the only high street Calabar boasts of. To put this into perspective, it's equivalent to robbers taking over the entire length of Broad Street or Bode Thomas in Lagos or Pound Road in Aba or TransAmadi in Portharcourt or Aminu Kano crescent-wuse2, Abuja for hours with no single challenge coming from security forces.
Whilst this was happening, the Governor, his excellency oops, sorry, his imperial majesty, Senator Professor Ben Ayade strolled into town after so many weeks away and was inspecting some dirt piles with his entourage. I can't say if his plan was to scoop some of the refuse and take it abroad and use as a sample for an anti-refuse MoU, all I can say is, this level of insecurity is unprecedented in the history of Calabar. In my entire life, I've never heard or read of robbers holding the commercial nerve centre of Calabar hostage before, this is a new low and it's sad that it's happening under Gov Ayade.
Is it so difficult for the governor to come up with a tangible solution asap? Because from the look of things, these dare devil miscreants will soon make Calabar uninhabitable, which would lead to residents fleeing town in their droves. Suffice it to say, anarchy looms.
Ezeogu Felix Dominic
I'm so sad 4 Calabar …So sad !!!!
I guess they are giving APC the higher grounds to take over from PDP in Cross River soon….
*disappointed to my bone marrow*
Asuquo Anwana
The late Sani Abacha said any insurgency that can't be curbed in less than 24hrs it means the government is involve, the drama is getting interesting
Etta Edem
This is just d beginning instead of d govt to pay attention to insecurity he is busy over nothing God will help us… D's wad how Maduguri started does it mean that indirectly he wants Calabar to be d northeast displacement so dat UN will come in and pump in dollars for him as d did in d north….d northeast is politically motivated cos of d amount of money in d or is he held…He shd be careful…Ugep are d killing as if human beings are chickens nothing g is done to cube it is well housars will be laughing at us
Williams Umanah

Cross Riverians, indigenes and residents alike are calling on the government of Cross River State to respond to her first and foremost responsibility, which is the protection of lifes and properties.
