How a famous Bruce Lee quote inspired Ryan Garcia's transformation

Despite being just 23 years of age, it seems like Ryan Garcia has been in the boxing scene for an eternity.

Born in Victorville, California, Garcia started boxing at the age of seven and had a successful amateur career before turning professional six years ago.

Starting as a super-feather weight, Garcia has continued to evolve as has forged a successful career as a lightweight, beating the likes of Carlos Morales, Braulio Rodriguez and Jose Lopez .

Through this process Garcia has also undergone a significant body transformation, with the boxer putting on a large chunk of muscle mass.

Garcia and his team, led by his personal chef Manny Duran, worked hard to improve both his strength and conditioning with the effort paying off.

“Adjust to your surroundings, because the world won’t wait for you,” Garcia told Mens Health.

“Just like Bruce Lee said, you need to be like water. Water goes into a cup, it turns into the cup.

“Water goes into anything, it becomes that. That’s what you need to do when you’re working out, and for anything in life. Just keep adjusting.”

Ryan Garcia’s physical transformation

Apart from his body, Garcia has also tattooed himself with a host of homages, including two lions on both of his pecs, an ode to his ‘KingRy’ nickname.

Born to a devout Christian family, Garcia was baptised in January 2021, and takes his faith seriously.

“The cross [signifies] the strength, the power in my right hand,” Garcia said of one his tattoos.

“Don’t underestimate the left one either, as it too has got that power.”

Garcia recently defeated Emmanuel Tagoe in April, after more than a year away. He has been working out since then and is preparing for a next fight.

The most likely opponents for his next fight were believed to be Gervonta Davis, George Kambosos Jr or Teofimo Lopez Jr, but in the end his next fight will be against Javier Fortuna at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on July 16.
